The 2010 Guest Of Honor:

A tradition of the PARADISE VALLEY JAZZ PARTY is to honor a musician who has made an outstanding contribution to jazz. During the first 32 years of the Paradise Valley Jazz Party honorees have included giants of the jazz world: Clark Terry, Zoot Sims, Al Grey, Joe Williams, and other musicians who have made an extraordinary contribution to the art form and to the people who love to listen to good jazz.

The musician who will be honored at the 33rd annual PARADISE VALLEY JAZZ PARTY in May of 2010 will be educator/music arranger/writer/and one of the finest jazz guitarist in the world, Bruce Forman!!

The following from Bruce's web site:

"Bruce Forman is one of the great lights of our age." said the late great jazz guitarist Barney Kessel. A brief peek at Bruce's life . . . A busy touring schedule; soundtrack performances on two of Clint Eastwood's distinguished films--the Oscar-winning Million Dollar Baby, and Oscar-nominated Flags of Our Fathers; thirteen recordings as a leader; over twenty appearances at the landmark Monterey Jazz Festival; a featured role on one of jazz great Ray Brown's last albums; Artist in Residence at USC's Studio / Jazz Guitar Dept. ‹when does Bruce Forman rest?

Forman is a seasoned jazz player with top-level skills as a leader, entertainer and sideman. He creates soulful, lyrical melodies, inventive harmonies, and solid accompaniment. Though he can shred bebop at blistering tempos with the best of them, he is no urban snob. Cow Bop, Forman's unique "western bebop" band, hit four separate charts with its CD, Swingin' Out West. A new composition, The Red Guitar, has received early acclaim. It may be the only jazz libretto where the narrator and the featured instrumentalist are the same performer. The Red Guitar requires great virtuosity, but it is much deeper than a simple showcase for Forman's abilities. It is serious one-man theater, exploring the obsessive demands that music places on its truest followers. Forman is also a distinguished music educator and in-kind philanthropist. His national music-mentoring program, JazzMasters Workshop, has provided over 2000 sessions for kids. Always free of charge, JazzMasters sessions occur during after-school hours, which are critical to adolescents" development. Bruce's life and musical journey provide an American saga that is still in full swing. His music and life reflect every step of his journey, and demonstrate the awareness of an artist who's very much at home in the world, and at the top of his form."

Badges, Tickets, and Seating:

Seating in the Music Room is reserved cabaret style seating. Because of the intimate nature of the event, guests of the party can meet and talk to the musicians in the Musician's Green Room. The event is called a "party" because, during the weekend the line between the performers and the audience gets blurred as people on both sides of the stage (the ones who make the music and the ones who listen to the music) all become part of the party.

If you buy a badge for the weekend or a session ticket and later find that you cannot attend all the sessions, your badge or ticket can be used by someone else. In case it is necessary to cancel your reserved badge or individual session ticket, full refunds will be made up to 30 days prior to the event (April 1st, 2010).
